Lufthansa VR

Design Thinking

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
2016

This project is from one of the courses in M.Sc. Usability Engineering. My colleagues and I were working on improving plane passenger's experience through Design Thinking process.

Empathize

The process started with empathizing users, so we went outside and talked with an international student who is a frequent flyer. After that we developed a persona and an empathy map to analyze the findings.

Define

Then we defined the problem and focus on solving one main topic. For that, we first individually came up with scenarios and vote to narrowed down into one.

Ideate

Then we were brainstorming for innovative solutions to solve the problem and fulfil user's needs. The fun thing about this phase is that we can be as creative and crazy as we could!

Prototype

Then we aligned and agreed on a solution to build a low-fidelity prototype. Since our idea was a VR tool to entertain the user on the plane, we used a card box and place a smartphone with a videos such as 360 degree view of the sky on.

Test

For evaluation, we conducted a usability test to get feedback on the idea. Even though the prototype was in low-fidelity, cheap and doesn't give the real feeling of the VR hardware tool, the participant showed excitement and gave a positive feedback overall.
